Lasagna

February 15, 2011 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love

This has to be one of my family’s favorite dishes.  This recipe was given to me at my bridal shower by my mother-in-law and she included a lasagna pan and the ingredients to make it for the first time.  I thought that was such a clever idea.   We have also used the sauce portion on spaghetti, it is that delicious.  The sauce can be made and frozen for later use.  This is also a great recipe to divide in two and bless someone with that has just had a baby or lost a loved one.  Very comforting!  Another favorite thing about this recipe (you can tell, I love it!) is the fact that you do not have to pre-cook the noodles.  This saves time and hassle.  Enjoy one of my favorite dishes!

Sauce
2 lbs. mild italian sausage
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon of salt
1 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
18 oz. tomato paste
24 oz. canned tomatoes, diced
18 oz. water

Cheese Layers
6 oz. Parmesan Cheese
1 lb. Ricotta Cheese
1 lb. Sharp cheddar, shredded
1 lb. Mozzarella, shredded

1 lb. lasagna noodles

Brown meat and drain.  Add remaining sauce ingredients to meat.  Simmer for 30 minutes.
In a bowl, cream Parmesan and Ricotta Cheese.
Mix together other cheeses in a small bowl.
In a 9×13 pan, place thin layer of sauce, then noodles, sauce, Ricotta mixture and grated cheese.
Repeat ending with grated cheese.  Seal tight with foil.
Bake, covered, at 350 for 1 hour.
Remove foil and bake for 15 minutes.
Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

*Note:  This may be made the day before and refrigerated overnight.

Enjoy!
