Baby Gender Reveal Party

May 27, 2011 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love

As I announced a couple of weeks ago, I am expecting my second child.  My husband, Jason and I are the type that want to know the sex of the baby ahead of time as I really like to plan and I figure it is just as surprising at 20 weeks as it is at 40 weeks but that is just me.  Others like to wait and I am sure that can be fun, too!

I wanted to do something fun and exciting when we found out and a couple of years ago I heard of a friend that had their ultrasound tech put the gender of the baby in an envelope.  Then you take the envelope to a bakery and they make you a cake that is either blue or pink on the inside.  Next, you host a party with family and close friends and when you cut into the cake everyone finds out at the same time what you are having!

I thought this sounded so fun and it was!!!  I gave my mom the special honor of making the cake and being the first to know.  I had to take the envelope straight to her so I wasn’t tempted to open it!

That evening we invited everyone over and we cut into the cake.  The suspense was killing everyone!

Here are some other fun ideas I found while searching the web:

– We had the guests where pink or blue depending on what they thought it was going to be.

– We listed our top five baby name ideas for a boy’s name and a girl’s name and let the guests vote on the name.

– I served foods for appetizers that I had been craving lately.

– I did the decorations in blue and pink and found candy at the store that I could use that was blue or pink.

Overall, it was such a fun party!  And we found out we are having another boy!!!!  We are very excited.

Becca also has a friend who is due with her second baby around the same time as me.  She liked the idea of sharing the baby’s gender with her family by cutting the cake and so Becca made a cake for the occasion.

Cupcakes that went along with the cake.

And yep, the inside of this one was blue too!  There are many different ways to share this information, having this party was a fun way to do it.

Are there any neat and creative ways that you’ve told people the gender of your baby?  If so, please share in the comments.  And stay tuned next week as we share some great tips and ideas for any upcoming baby showers that you may be hosting!
