Sorry brown sugar chocolate chip cookies, I have a new favorite. I don’t have to wait for the butter so soften, so when I want cookies right now I can have them…right then.
There’s something magical that happens when you heat butter in a pan until it turns golden brown, it makes this cookie dough extra tempting and these cookies have a slight crunch on the outside and a lovely chewiness in the middle. Simply superb and totally worth the effort of heating up the stove top!
Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
by Becca {Crumbs and Chaos}
Ingredients (about 3 1/2 dozen)
- 1 3/4 cups FLOUR
- 1/2 teaspoon BAKING SODA
- 1/2 teaspoon SALT
- 14 Tablespoons BUTTER
- 1/2 cup SUGAR
- 3/4 cup BROWN SUGAR, packed
- 1 Tablespoon VANILLA EXTRACT
- 1 EGG
- 1 EGG YOLK
- 1 cup CHOCOLATE CHIPS
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Swirl the pan as it continues cooking, it will foam and bubble and eventually turn a dark golden brown and have a nutty aroma. Watch it closely, this will take about 2-3 minutes. Pour brown butter into a large heatproof mixing bowl.
Add sugars and vanilla, mix well. Add egg and egg yolk, whisk until fully combined. Stir in flour mixture and then chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoons onto baking sheet, bake for 10-11 minutes or until just golden. Cool on wire rack.
