KIDS AND THANKSGIVING

This month, our weekly Wednesday series will focus on activities that can be done with children that are related to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Now that our kids are getting a bit older it is a lot of fun to start traditions that we can do every year.
So, beginning today at our house, we have made a Tree of Thankfulness.  I think that it’s important to teach children to be grateful for what they HAVE.  This is a great time of year to do this.
A simple project that the entire family can participate in, it didn’t take long to make this and I can’t wait to hear what the kids come up with as we add more leaves to the tree.
You will need:

1 empty cereal box
Brown Paper
Colored paper for leaves
Scissors
Tape
Markers or crayons

Use brown paper (anything you have will do, I used the packing paper from a recent Amazon purchase) to cover the cereal box – this is the trunk of the tree.  Tape it to the surface where you want to hang it.

Cut branches out of more brown paper and attach them to the trunk.

Cut leaves out of colored paper.  I did this freehand, but feel free to run outside and grab a leaf to trace if you need to.

Now you are ready to be thankful!  Ask your children what they are thankful for, write it on the leaves if they need help.  Tape these leaves on the tree.

Today my children were thankful for climbing trees, helping my mom do crafts and markers.  I participated and wrote ‘my children’.  Tomorrow morning we will add to our tree.  It’s a great way to start out the day with an attitude of gratitude!
