Chocolate Gravy!?!

August 17, 2011 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love
Ever heard of it?
I had briefly, in college, a friend of mine talked about it on occasion.  It’s a Southern thing, something that can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert.
Last Sunday, our church had an anniversary breakfast.  There were about 37 biscuits left over and since I have 4 kids I was nominated to take home about 21 of them.  So then I had to figure out what to do with a surplus of biscuits, without making an extra trip to the store.

Chocolate gravy came to mind and boy, was it a hit!  The kids loved it, I mean what kid wouldn’t love a biscuit covered in chocolate?  We had these for lunch with scrambled eggs.  They’d be perfect for a weekend breakfast or any time you want to treat the kids to a special out of the ordinary meal.
CHOCOLATE GRAVY
Printable Recipe Here
4 Tablespoons COCOA POWDER
2 Tablespoons FLOUR
1 cup SUGAR
1 1/2 cups MILK (the recipe says whole, I had 2%)
4 Tablespoons BUTTER
1 teaspoon VANILLA
In a medium saucepan, whisk together dry ingredients.  Add milk and stir vigorously to combine.  Heat over medium-high heat until mixture bubbles.  Turn heat down to medium and stir until it reaches a gravy-like consistency.  Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla.
Let cool for a few minutes and serve over warm biscuits.

    Not gonna lie, the idea of chocolate gravy kind of freaks me out (and I’m Southern!). BUT, I’m totally going to take your word for it (because there is ALWAYS good stuff on here!) and make it for Sunday breakfast this week 🙂 {nervous…}

    Gravy anxiety aside, I hope you’ll link this up (and anything else that you’ve got!) at Something Swanky this weekend 🙂

    As always, love the blog! (and I’m going to stumble this one, I bet it does well on there :))
