As the school year approaches, life tends to get a little crazy. While I don’t actually have any kids that I have to send off to school, I do remember being a kid and I do love to be organized! So today I have a few tips to help keep your morning and life a little less chaotic.

- Lay out your clothes the night before. I know, I know you’ve probably heard that a million times but it really does make morning life easier. You can even take it a step further and plan for the whole week. I saw this tip on The Talk the other day and thought it was a great idea, especially if you have a girl or a child that likes to pick out their own clothes. On Sunday, let your child pick out all of the outfits for the week. Hang them all together with a tag that is labeled with the day of the week. Then don’t let your child change their outfit when the days comes (of course leaving room for weather changes and what not). That way you are giving them creative license to pick out their clothes, but you have a plan for the week. Also lay out back packs and other items that will be needed for the following day.
- If you have multiple children, assign them each a color. Then always use the color for that child. Say I assign Jonah blue, on the calendar, I would write all of his events and appointments in blue. I could have a blue hook for his coat and use a blue basket or bin for him to place his backpacks, school stuff, shoes, etc. in. Using this system allows you and the child to recognize their activities and know where to put and find their things.
- Create a list for each child (and yourself) for the things that need to be done before you leave the house. Include things such as, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, and make your bed. This can be done on a dry erase board or clipboard or a magnetic board. For little children use pictures instead of words so that they can identify each item without your help. This can be customized to what your family needs, just find a system that works for you.
