As if there weren’t enough things in the world to cover Chex cereal in, I’ve gone and thought of one more.
How about butterfinger candy bars?
Oh yes, I did.
Butterfinger Muddy Buddies…a big bowl of this stuff is as dangerous as a pan of last week’s Double Chocolate Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats. Don’t be caught in a room alone with this goodness. I mean it.
Rice chex cereal and pretzels coated extra well in peanut butter and milk chocolate dusted in powdered sugar and finely chopped butterfinger candy bars with chunks of candy bar strewn throughout – insanely delicious.
Also, don’t be like me and start to make this without first checking your powdered sugar stash first. I was literally scraping the bottom of the barrel on that one to get every last bit of powdered sugar goodness to add to this mix.
So what are you waiting for…you totally need these in your life. And don’t forget the milk, you’re gonna need it!
Ingredients
- 5 cups RICE CHEX CEREAL
- 2 cups PRETZEL STICKS, broken in half
- 2 (6 count) pkgs. MINI BUTTERFINGER CANDY BARS
- 1/2 cup BUTTER
- 1/2 cup CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER
- 1 bag MILK CHOCOLATE CHIPS
- 2+ cups POWDERED SUGAR
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining with waxed or parchment paper or a silpat mat.
- Mix together cereal and pretzel sticks in a large bowl.
- Cut each candy bar into thirds. Set aside the pieces that are mostly intact and finely chop what's remaining. You should have between 3/4 and 1 cup of finely chopped candy bar.
- Add the butter, peanut butter and chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl, heat in microwave for 1 minute. Stir and heat for another 30 seconds; stir again. If it's not entirely melted and smooth, heat for another 30 seconds.
- Pour over cereal and mix well.
- Dump 1 cup of powdered sugar and half of the chopped candy bar into a gallon size baggie. Put in half of the coated cereal mixture and shake to coat in powdered sugar. Add additional powdered sugar if needed. Spread onto baking sheet.
- Repeat with remaining cereal, powdered sugar and chopped butterfingers. Let set for 15 minutes before breaking into pieces. Add the bigger pieces of chopped candy bars to the mix before devouring.
Even more sensational snack mix:

Yumm! I’m always looking for new snack ideas.
Just wanted to mention a little trick my Grandmother used to do. It’s MUCH less messy and you keep more of the good stuff!
When she would make the good “old fashioned” party mix, she’d put all the ingredients needing mixed into a plain old grocery sack! ( clearly anything melted or hot need to cool slightly) but, put it all in there & keep shaking.
It covers evenly, cleanup is easy, & you can pour it right onto your baking sheet.
Just thought I’d share…
